Seismic activity on Oct. 9: Earthquake close to La Tronosa, Panama detected – magnitude 5.0

TONOSÍ DISTRICT, Los Santos Province — A 5.0 magnitude quake struck near La Tronosa on Friday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor jolted at 23:10 UTC (18:10 local time), with its epicenter about 8 km east-southeast of La Tronosa and a depth of 10 km.

Tremors last week

Last week, there have been 12 tremors with a magnitude 2.5 or greater centered nearby, three of them larger than magnitude 5.5. The largest one was a 7.7 earthquake that was recorded close to Pitaloza Arriba prior to this quake.
