A 5.1 magnitude quake was registered near Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky Monday night, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

A tremor jolted the area at 11:37 UTC (22:37 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was situated roughly 162 km southeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and occurred at a depth of 10 km.

Tremors last week

Seven quakes of magnitude 2.5 or higher have been detected in the region in the past week, two of them larger than magnitude 5.5. The strongest, a 6.1 magnitude quake, shook the same region prior to this quake.
