Update: July 30 – 5.3 magnitude earthquake registered near Vilyuchinsk, Russia

A 5.3 magnitude quake was reported near Vilyuchinsk Wednesday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor hit at 06:21 UTC (17:21 local time), with its epicenter situated approximately 178 km south-southeast of Vilyuchinsk and a depth of 10 km.

In the past week, eight tremors of magnitude 5.5 or greater have been recorded in the area. The biggest, a 6.9 magnitude quake, was detected close to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky prior to this quake.
