TAPACHULA, Chis. — A 5.3 magnitude quake occurred near Puerto Madero on Saturday around midnight, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
A tremor jolted the area at 06:51 UTC (00:51 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was roughly 87 km west-southwest of Puerto Madero and occurred at a depth of 35 km.

Tremors last week
During the past week, there have been 31 earthquakes of magnitude 2.5 or greater centered nearby, two of them larger than magnitude 5.5. The strongest, a 7.3 magnitude quake, was registered in the same region on Jul. 17.
