Update: Earthquake jolts region near Nishinoomote, Japan on July 16 – 5.1 magnitude recorded

A 5.1 magnitude quake occurred close to Nishinoomote on Thursday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

At 21:49 UTC (06:49 local time), a tremor hit the area at a depth of 35 km, with its epicenter about 48 km east of Nishinoomote. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.2 event, but later downgraded it to 5.1.
