A tremor jolted the area at 03:44 UTC (13:44 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was located approximately 85 km east of Severo-Kuril’sk and occurred at a depth of 45 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.5 event, but later downgraded it to 5.4.
