Update: Earthquake of 5.0 magnitude registered close to Vilyuchinsk, Russia on Aug. 24

On Sunday around midday, a 5.0 magnitude quake was recorded near Vilyuchinsk, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor jolted the area at 02:31 UTC (13:31 local time). It occurred at a depth of 35 km with the epicenter situated about 175 km south-southeast of Vilyuchinsk.

Over the last week, there have been 16 tremors with a magnitude 2.5 or greater centered nearby. The strongest, a 5.8 magnitude quake, was reported in the same region three days earlier.
