Update: Earthquake of 5.0 magnitude reported close to Vilyuchinsk, Russia on Aug. 11

Monday morning, a 5.0 magnitude quake was registered near Vilyuchinsk, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

At 21:02 UTC (08:02 local time), the region was hit by a tremor. The earthquake jolted at a depth of 35 km, with its epicenter about 177 km south-southeast of Vilyuchinsk.

Tremors last week

During the past week, there have been 47 earthquakes with a magnitude 2.5 or higher centered nearby, two of them larger than magnitude 5.5. The most significant was a 5.8 magnitude earthquake recorded in the same area five days ago.
