According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.4 magnitude quake struck close to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky around midday Friday.

The tremor hit the region at 01:36 UTC (12:36 local time). It occurred at a depth of 10 km with the epicenter located about 187 km east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.3 event, but later upgraded it to 5.4.
