A 5.9 magnitude quake occurred near southeast Indian Ridge around midday Friday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The USGS reported a tremor in the region at 07:17 UTC (13:17 local time). The epicenter was of southeast Indian Ridge, at a depth of 10 km. The magnitude was originally reported as 5.4 but later upgraded to 5.9.
