Update: Earthquake measuring 5.0 hits area near Finschhafen, Papua New Guinea on May 17

FINSCHHAFEN DISTRICT, Morobe Province — A 5.0 magnitude quake jolted close to Finschhafen on Sunday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor, which shook the region at 22:58 UTC (08:58 local time), was centered about 30 km west-northwest of Finschhafen. It occurred at a depth of 64 km. The magnitude was originally reported as 5.1 but later downgraded to 5.0.
