A 5.3 magnitude quake was recorded near Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky at midday on Tuesday, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

A tremor shook the area at 01:58 UTC (12:58 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was situated about 156 km east-southeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and occurred at a depth of 10 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 6.3 event, but later downgraded it to 5.3.
