TAPACHULA, Chis. — A 5.0 magnitude quake shook near Puerto Madero on Friday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The tremor rattled the area at 14:56 UTC (08:56 local time). It occurred at a depth of 10 km with the epicenter approximately 110 km southwest of Puerto Madero.

Two tremors nearby last week

In the past week, two tremors greater than magnitude 2.5 have been centered in the region. Both were recorded in the same area with the stronger — a 4.7 magnitude earthquake — striking prior to this quake. The other, measuring 4.0, jolted on Jul. 14.
