Update: Earthquake measuring 5.0 strikes area near Mid-Atlantic Ridge on July 16

A 5.0 magnitude quake occurred close to Mid-Atlantic Ridge on Thursday evening, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor, which hit the region at 21:16 UTC (20:16 local time), was centered south of Mid-Atlantic Ridge. It occurred at a depth of 10 km.

Tremors last week

Over the last week, the area has experienced five tremors with a magnitude 2.5 or greater. The most significant was a 5.3 magnitude earthquake reported in the same region prior to this quake.
