Update: 5.1 magnitude earthquake jolts close to Vilyuchinsk, Russia on Jan. 28

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.1 magnitude quake occurred near Vilyuchinsk Wednesday evening.

The tremor hit at 08:24 UTC (19:24 local time), with its epicenter located about 172 km southeast of Vilyuchinsk and a depth of 10 km.

Tremors last week

Four tremors of magnitude 2.5 or above have been reported in the region in the past week. The biggest, a 5.1 magnitude quake, was recorded in the same area two days ago.
