Update: Earthquake of 5.0 magnitude recorded close to Vilyuchinsk, Russia on Jan. 28

A 5.0 magnitude quake was registered near Vilyuchinsk Wednesday afternoon, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

A tremor rattled the area at 07:57 UTC (18:57 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was located roughly 190 km south-southeast of Vilyuchinsk and occurred at a depth of 35 km.

Tremors past week

Last week, six earthquakes with a magnitude 2.5 or higher have been detected in the region. The strongest, a 6.2 magnitude quake, slammed the same region six days earlier.
