The National Weather Service issued an updated high surf advisory at 7:24 a.m. on Thursday valid from 3 p.m. until Saturday 11 a.m. for San Luis Obispo County Beaches and Santa Barbara County Central Coast Beaches.

The NWS states to prepare for, “Large breaking waves of 10 to 15 feet with local sets to 18 feet and dangerous rip currents.”

“There is an increased risk for ocean drowning. Rip currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Large breaking waves can cause injury, wash people off beaches and rocks, and capsize small boats near shore,” explains the NWS. “Remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions, or stay near occupied lifeguard towers. Rock jetties can be deadly located in such conditions, so stay off the rocks.”
