A tremor shook the area at 00:32 UTC (09:32 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was approximately 111 km west-northwest of Ternate and occurred at a depth of 35 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.3 event, but later upgraded it to 5.4.
