Earthquake shakes area close to Severo-Kuril’sk, Russia: 5.1 magnitude recorded on May 1

A 5.1 magnitude quake jolted near Severo-Kuril’sk on Friday afternoon, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The tremor hit the region at 04:03 UTC (16:03 local time). It occurred at a depth of 76 km with the epicenter about 70 km east-northeast of Severo-Kuril’sk.
