Update: Seismic activity on Aug. 12 – 5.0 magnitude earthquake close to Abepura, Indonesia detected

SARMI REGENCY, Papua — the U.S. Geological Survey reported that a 5.0 magnitude quake occurred close to Abepura Tuesday afternoon.

The tremor, which struck the area at 09:43 UTC (18:43 local time), was centered roughly 171 km west-northwest of Abepura. It occurred at a depth of 35 km.
