Update: Earthquake rocks region near Severo-Kuril’sk, Russia on Aug. 3 – 6.8 magnitude reported

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 6.8 magnitude quake occurred near Severo-Kuril’sk Sunday afternoon.

The tremor, which shook the area at 05:37 UTC (16:37 local time), was centered about 123 km east of Severo-Kuril’sk. It occurred at a depth of 30 km.
