A 5.2 magnitude quake was recorded near Severo-Kuril’sk Thursday night, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
A tremor hit the area at 11:59 UTC (21:59 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was located approximately 132 km south-southeast of Severo-Kuril’sk and occurred at a depth of 43 km. The magnitude was originally reported as 5.3 but later downgraded to 5.2.
