ALEUTIANS WEST CENSUS AREA, AK — A 5.6 magnitude quake occurred near Atka on Friday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.
At 12:16 p.m. (1:16 a.m. local time), a tremor hit the region at a depth of 8 miles, with its epicenter about 109 miles east of Atka. The magnitude was originally reported as 5.2 but later upgraded to 5.6.
