Update: March 23 – 5.1 magnitude earthquake recorded close to Mid-Atlantic Ridge

A 5.1 magnitude quake hit near Mid-Atlantic Ridge on Monday night, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The tremor struck at 01:41 UTC (22:41 local time), with its epicenter north of Mid-Atlantic Ridge and a depth of 10 km.

Two tremors closeby last week

In the past week, the area has experienced two tremors above magnitude 2.5, both centered in the same region. The larger, a 6.6 magnitude event, was detected on Mar. 21, while the other, at magnitude 4.6, jolted on Mar. 22.
