MARE, Loyalty Islands Province — A 5.1 magnitude quake occurred close to Tadine on Saturday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor, which jolted the area at 15:01 UTC (02:01 local time), was centered about 74 km east-northeast of Tadine. It occurred at a depth of 10 km.

Tremors past week

Last week, 19 tremors of magnitude 2.5 or greater have been recorded in the area, two of them larger than magnitude 5.5. The most significant was a 6.6 magnitude earthquake reported in the same region on Sep. 26.
