Update: Earthquake of 5.3 magnitude registered close to Cordova, AK on June 29

CHUGACH CENSUS AREA, AK — A 5.3 magnitude quake occurred near Cordova on Monday evening, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

At 3:32 a.m. (7:32 p.m. local time), a tremor hit the region at a depth of 8 miles, with its epicenter about 22 miles south-southwest of Cordova. The magnitude was originally reported as 5.1 but later upgraded to 5.3.
