The U.S. Geological Survey reported that a 5.1 magnitude quake occurred close to the Kuril Islands Friday morning.

The tremor, which shook the region at 15:50 UTC (01:50 local time), was centered east of the Kuril Islands. It occurred at a depth of 10 km.
