MARE, Loyalty Islands Province — A 5.1 magnitude quake jolted near Tadine on Monday afternoon, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The tremor struck the area at 05:28 UTC (16:28 local time). It occurred at a depth of 10 km with the epicenter approximately 78 km east-northeast of Tadine.

In the past week, there have been 27 tremors of magnitude 2.5 or above centered nearby, two of them larger than magnitude 5.5. The strongest, a 6.6 magnitude quake, was registered in the same region on Sep. 26.
