A 5.0 magnitude quake was detected close to Tulagi Monday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The tremor hit the area at 03:54 UTC (14:54 local time). It occurred at a depth of 79 km with the epicenter situated approximately 38 km northwest of Tulagi. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.1 event, but later downgraded it to 5.0.
