NIUATOPUTAPU, Niuas — A 5.0 magnitude quake was reported close to Hihifo Monday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor, which hit the area at 18:52 UTC (06:52 local time), was centered roughly 32 km east-southeast of Hihifo. It occurred at a depth of 32 km.
