Update: 5.2 magnitude earthquake jolts close to Simav, Turkey on Sept. 28

SIMAV, Kütahya — at midday on Sunday, a 5.2 magnitude quake was detected near Simav, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor, which shook the area at 09:59 UTC (12:59 local time), was centered approximately 22 km north-northwest of Simav. It occurred at a depth of 10 km. The magnitude was originally reported as 5.4 but later downgraded to 5.2.

Strong to very strong shaking was recorded, and residents in multiple cities — including İstanbul, Yakuplu, Bursa and Simav — reported feeling the tremor, according to the USGS DYFI report.
