Update: 5.2 magnitude earthquake strikes close to Asadābād, Afghanistan on Sept. 5

NURGAL, Kunar — A 5.2 magnitude quake was reported close to Asadābād Friday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

It was reported that a tremor hit the region at 01:30 UTC (06:00 local time). The epicenter was situated approximately 39 km southwest of Asadābād, at a depth of 9 km.

Tremors past week

Last week, there have been 14 quakes with a magnitude 2.5 or above centered nearby, two of them larger than magnitude 5.5. The most significant was a 6.0 magnitude earthquake registered in the same area five days earlier.
