Earthquake measuring 5.0 rattles area near Mitsukaidō, Japan on Sept. 16

A 5.0 magnitude quake struck near Mitsukaidō around midnight Wednesday, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The tremor hit at 15:07 UTC (00:07 local time), with its epicenter about 5 km northeast of Mitsukaidō and a depth of 77 km.
