Update: Earthquake hits region close to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Russia on Sept. 20 – 5.0 magnitude recorded

The U.S. Geological Survey reported that a 5.0 magnitude quake struck near Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky Saturday afternoon.

The tremor rattled the area at 06:56 UTC (17:56 local time). It occurred at a depth of 10 km with the epicenter located approximately 187 km east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.

Tremors last week

Over the last week, there have been eight tremors with a magnitude 5.5 or above centered nearby. The strongest, a 7.8 magnitude quake, was registered in the same region one day ago.
