Update: Earthquake of 5.0 magnitude recorded near Matsue, Japan on Jan. 6

The U.S. Geological Survey reported that a 5.0 magnitude quake occurred close to Matsue Tuesday morning.

A tremor struck the area at 01:28 UTC (10:28 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was located roughly 14 km south of Matsue and occurred at a depth of 12 km.

Those who experienced the quake are encouraged to report it via the USGS Felt Report form. So far, the agency has collected 4 online responses from individuals reporting that they felt the tremor. According to the USGS DYFI report, weak shaking was detected and several people in and around the Iwakuni area reported experiencing the earthquake.
