Update: Seismic activity on Feb. 27 – 5.0 magnitude earthquake near Hirara, Japan detected

A 5.0 magnitude quake occurred near Hirara on Friday night, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

At 14:48 UTC (22:48 local time), a tremor struck the region at a depth of 10 km, with its epicenter about 57 km north-northwest of Hirara.

Tremors last week

Last week, there have been seven tremors with a magnitude 2.5 or greater centered nearby. The strongest, a 5.2 magnitude quake, was recorded in the same area prior to this quake.
