Update: Earthquake strikes region near Kirakira, Solomon Islands on Dec. 16 – 5.2 magnitude detected

A 5.2 magnitude quake was registered close to Kirakira Tuesday evening, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

A tremor shook the area at 09:18 UTC (20:18 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was situated roughly 213 km southeast of Kirakira and occurred at a depth of 10 km. The magnitude was originally reported as 5.3 but later downgraded to 5.2.
