Earthquake jolts area close to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Russia: 5.2 magnitude recorded on Sept. 18

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.2 magnitude quake occurred near Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky Thursday morning.

The tremor, which hit the region at 23:15 UTC (10:15 local time), was centered roughly 152 km east-southeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. It occurred at a depth of 30 km.

Last week, 10 tremors of magnitude 5.5 or higher have been detected in the area. The biggest, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake, shook the same region prior to this quake.
