It was reported that a tremor shook the region at 19:38 UTC (07:38 local time). The epicenter was located about 115 km east-northeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, at a depth of 53 km.

Last week, there have been 14 tremors with a magnitude 2.5 or above centered nearby, four of them larger than magnitude 7. The largest one was a 7.8 earthquake that was recorded in the same area prior to this quake.
