Update: Earthquake shakes region close to Bitung, Indonesia on April 3 – 5.1 magnitude detected

A 5.1 magnitude quake occurred near Bitung on Friday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The tremor hit the area at 21:19 UTC (06:19 local time). It occurred at a depth of 35 km with the epicenter roughly 128 km east of Bitung.

Tremors past week

Last week, seven quakes with a magnitude 5.5 or higher have been recorded in the area. The strongest, a 7.4 magnitude quake, hit close to Ternate on Apr. 2.
