TAPACHULA, Chis. — A 5.2 magnitude quake occurred close to Puerto Madero on Saturday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

A tremor jolted the area at 09:59 UTC (03:59 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was roughly 60 km southwest of Puerto Madero and occurred at a depth of 52 km.

Tremors last week

During the past week, there have been 36 quakes of magnitude 2.5 or greater centered nearby, two of them larger than magnitude 5.5. The most significant was a 7.3 magnitude earthquake detected in the same region on Jul. 17.
