Update: Seismic activity on April 24 – 5.1 magnitude earthquake near Sitia, Greece reported

A 5.1 magnitude quake jolted near Sitia at midday on Friday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor struck at 08:58 UTC (11:58 local time), with its epicenter roughly 24 km south of Sitia and a depth of 10 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.0 event, but later upgraded it to 5.1.

Tremors past week

Last week, five tremors of magnitude 2.5 or higher have been registered in the area. The biggest, a 5.7 magnitude quake, was detected close to Kentrí prior to this quake.
