MOUNT WADDINGTON, BC — A 5.2 magnitude quake struck close to Port McNeill on Monday around midnight, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor hit at 09:13 UTC (00:13 local time), with its epicenter roughly 190 km west-southwest of Port McNeill and a depth of 10 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.0 event, but later upgraded it to 5.2.

Nearby area shaken by two tremors over the week

In the past week, the region has experienced two tremors exceeding magnitude 2.5, both centered in the same area. The larger, a 5.4 magnitude event, was recorded prior to this quake, while the other, at magnitude 4.9, shook on Sep. 27.
