MARE, Loyalty Islands Province — A 5.2 magnitude quake struck near Tadine on Monday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

A tremor shook the area at 05:45 UTC (16:45 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was approximately 67 km east-northeast of Tadine and occurred at a depth of 10 km.

Earthquakes last week

In the past week, the region has experienced 27 tremors of magnitude 2.5 or greater, two of them larger than magnitude 5.5. The largest one was a 6.6 earthquake that hit the same region on Sep. 26.
