MARE, Loyalty Islands Province — A 5.0 magnitude quake occurred close to Tadine on Tuesday night, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

A tremor shook the area at 10:42 UTC (21:42 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was approximately 77 km east-northeast of Tadine and occurred at a depth of 10 km.

Last week, the region has experienced 32 quakes of magnitude 2.5 or above, two of them larger than magnitude 5.5. The strongest, a 6.6 magnitude quake, hit the same region on Sep. 26.
