Update: 5.1 magnitude earthquake detected near Kimbe, Papua New Guinea on Sept. 16

A 5.1 magnitude quake hit close to Kimbe on Wednesday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

At 20:21 UTC (06:21 local time), a tremor struck the region at a depth of 10 km, with its epicenter roughly 190 km east-southeast of Kimbe. The magnitude was originally reported as 4.9 but later upgraded to 5.1.
