ALEUTIANS WEST CENSUS AREA, AK — A 6.5 magnitude quake slammed near Nikolski on Thursday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The USGS reported a tremor in the region at 2:19 p.m. (5:19 a.m. local time). The epicenter was about 103 miles west of Nikolski, at a depth of 69 miles. The magnitude was originally reported as 6.3 but later upgraded to 6.5.
