ALEUTIANS WEST CENSUS AREA, AK — A 5.0 magnitude quake occurred near Nikolski on Thursday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor, which rattled the area at 8:22 p.m. (9:22 a.m. local time), was centered approximately 39 miles south-southwest of Nikolski. It occurred at a depth of 21 miles.

108 tremors with a magnitude 2.5 or above have been recorded in the region over the last week. The most significant was a 6.3 magnitude earthquake registered in the same region prior to this quake.
