TAPACHULA, Chis. — A 5.6 magnitude quake shook close to Puerto Madero on Wednesday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

A tremor hit the area at 12:28 UTC (06:28 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was about 71 km west-southwest of Puerto Madero and occurred at a depth of 10 km.

Area struck by 6.2 quake in 1991
Strong earthquakes have struck the area before. A magnitude 6.2 quake struck 2.5 miles southeast of Patzún in Patzún on Sep. 18, 1991, at a depth of 3.1 miles.
