Earthquake measuring 5.0 shakes area near Kokopo, Papua New Guinea on Aug. 11

A 5.0 magnitude quake hit close to Kokopo on Tuesday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The tremor, which jolted the region at 20:31 UTC (06:31 local time), was centered approximately 89 km east-southeast of Kokopo. It occurred at a depth of 69 km.
